4 causes for puppy constipation

  • Insufficient amount of fibre in the diet – Give your puppy high quality food with enough fibre and the lowest possible content in cereal and by-products.
  • Insufficient amount of water – Dehydration is a common cause of constipation. Your puppy should always have plenty of water available. If its stools look dry, add water to the diet.
  • Ingestion of foreign bodies – Most puppies have a tendency to swallow foreign objects such as bones, hair, socks, bags, balls, threads, etc. This habit may be a serious problem as it can cause blockage of the digestive tract. If constipation is accompanied by frequent vomiting and dehydration, you should definitely contact your vet.
  • Lack of exercise – Walk your puppy 3 to 4 times a day. Gentle exercise is essential for proper growth.
